Rebates and Incentives
The rebates and incentives that are currently available in many areas make solar more affordable than ever.  The savings can take as much as 60% off the cost of a system!  Below are some brief highlights, there is much more detailed information available on the DSIRE (Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency) web site:

GEO Program

The Colorado Governors Energy Office recently release a new rebate program as of April 19th, 2010.  Rebates are available on a first come, first served basis for both photovoltaic and solar hot water systems.  Not all systems are eligible, and there is limited funding available.  Please call today for more information! 

Xcel Energy

Xcel Energy's Solar*Rewards Program provides a rebate incentive for customers who install grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems ranging from 0.5 kilowatts (kW) to 10 kW-DC in capacity.

Federal Tax Credits

Business Solar Investment Tax Credit (IR Code §48)

 

The bill extends the 30% Investment tax Credit or ITC for solar energy property for eight years through December 31, 2016.

The ITC can be used to offset regular and alternative minimum tax and waves the public utility exception.  Permits utilities to directly invest in solar facilities and claim the ITC.

The five-year accelerated depreciation allowance for solar property is permanent and not affected by this extension.

 


Residential Solar Investment Tax Credit (IR Code §25D)

 

The bill extends the 30% ITC for residential solar property for eight years through December 31, 2016. 

Removes the cap on qualified solar electric property expenditures, which were $2,000 that was put into service after December 31, 2008.

The bill allow individual taxpayers to use the credit to offset the alternative minimum tax liability and carry unused credits forward to the next succeeding taxable year.

The $2,000 cap on Solar thermal energy has not been lifted though this bill.
